Marriage and the Right Reasons For It
Marriage seems like a scary thing for most people, and understandably so. Some men and women are apprehensive about tying the night for various reasons, which often include fear of commitment. It also doesn’t help the situation when popular culture and the media often portray marriage in a negative light. While it is true that there are enough reasons not to get hitched, there are also valid reasons to do so. Below are some reasons for marriage which even the most skeptical people should consider:
-
Marriage makes one live longer. Whoever thought that matrimony could actually prolong life? This argument for marriage is backed by research. According to various studies, happily married folks tend to live longer than singletons. In fact, the rate of mortality is higher among single men than their married counterparts.
-
Marriage makes people happier. Sure, dating around is fun, but the joy it brings only lasts for awhile. Like the first one, this reason is made valid by a recent study. Married men are found to be happier than single men. There is greater happiness because matrimony offers both parties stability and a support system with each other.
-
Marriage makes better individuals. Before you roll your eyes in disbelief, listen up. With the right partner, anyone can become the best version of themselves. The spouse is in the position to tap into one’s potential and change them for the better. In addition, the institution of marriage teaches one how to compromise. That in itself makes anyone better.
-
Marriage gives one a life partner. Nobody wants to die alone, right? Being a serial dater may be great for 20-somethings, but it surely wouldn’t work for senior citizens. In a sense, marriage is an investment, but to a person. One must leave behind the unpredictable single life in exchange from the long-term benefits of settling down.
-
Lastly, there is financial gain in marriage. It seems like the most selfish reason in the list, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t true. Unfortunately for single people, society is more attuned to married folks. When it comes to tax breaks and health insurance plans, those who’ve gone through marriage are luckier.
