How can you make your marriage survive and reach the “til death to us part” finish line? With the divorce rate on the rise, it appears that couples find it easier to just throw in the towel. The good news is, you can make your marriage work by keeping it healthy with the ways listed below:

1. Stay fit

Being married doesn’t mean you have to let yourself go. Men and women who are married should keep their waistlines in check, as a bigger belly can result in poor overall health and reduced sexual attraction. To keep your marriage healthy, develop healthy eating habits with your spouse and work out together.

2. Establish a financial plan

The main reason couples fight is money, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the topic of finance can cause a marriage to go downhill. It is best for you and your partner to talk about and agree on a financial plan. Settle all your financial issues to prevent a trip to divorce-ville.

3. Agree on family rules

In the beginning of the marriage, you and your spouse should already establish ground rules on how you’d raise your family. This is because small issues will blow out of proportion once there are kids already.

4. Have sex, but not on schedule

Sex is very important in a marriage, but don’t just do it because you have to. Not having sex is just as bad as making it seem like a responsibility or chore. Never forget to be intimate with your partner, so the relationship will last a long time.

5. Learn to adapt

Within your marriage, many things will change, and this can include unemployment. If the situation requires a change in roles (the man at home, the woman as breadwinner), then go along with it. To make the arrangement better, delegate household duties between the two of you.

6. Reconnect

After the kids have moved away from home, take advantage of the time and rediscover yourselves. Since having children have deprived you many a quality time with your partner throughout the marriage, use the opportunity to catch up. Married men and women shouldn’t suffer from the empty nest syndrome.

With these tips in mind, you can keep your marriage healthy and strong, so don’t forget them!
